Welcome to the Holy Family School

To Increase in wisdom and grace

Supportive and caring

Welcome

Welcome, I am delighted to be writing to you as the newly appointed Acting Head teacher of Holy Family Catholic High School. It is a privilege to take up this position after serving the school for three years as the Deputy Head teacher. Mr Michael Fallon has been appointed as Acting Deputy Head teacher and he joins us from St John Fisher in Dewsbury.

This is an exciting time to take on such a role, as I strongly believe that Holy Family continues to be a truly excellent school. Our pastoral care is regarded as exemplary and once again this summer our academic achievements have continued to go from strength to strength. Holy Family is a place where staff are proud to work, a place which Governors and parents are proud to support and a school to which students are proud to belong.

Holy Family Catholic High School, is a school with a distinct ethos centred upon the life and teaching of Jesus Christ. The dignity of each person is at the heart of Catholic teaching; every student has his or her own individual strengths, gifts and talents; our aim is to ensure that these are all developed to their full potential.

We look for excellence in all aspects of learning and we expect high standards of achievement from all members of the community. We lead and innovate to make learning fun, challenging and distinctive. The relationships between teachers, students and parents are fundamental to the success of the school. Working together, we ensure that students enjoy their time at Holy Family, make outstanding progress and leave us as responsible, well-qualified, mature young people; ready to make a valued contribution to society.

We are looking to present a window into the life of the school, an opportunity to share information and to celebrate our students and their successes and as such I hope that you find the content of our website useful.

Our Open Evening is on Thu 24th September from 6pm onwards and if you are a prospective parent, we would like to invite you to visit our school on that evening. We do feel that our pupils are our real strength and if you would like to witness a working day at Holy Family please contact Mrs J Lemm who will be happy to arrange this for you.

I would like to thank you for your interest in our school and I look forward to the possibility of working together in the future.

Team success must go to the YR 7's girls who finished 5th overall with a special mention for Eva Abbott and Scarlet Oldfield who came 4th and 11th respectively. The two girls have been given a special invitation to train with the York and District cross country team; we wish them well.

GREAT BRITAIN VOLLEYBALL STAR

BEN PIPES

report by Nikolina Bajaka

On the 12th November 2015 a famous Volleyball player, Ben Pipes came to Carlton Holy Family. He came to tell us about his sporting achievements and his life.

Ben played volleyball for Great Britain for over 7 years!. He played lots of matches in different countries and in every country he stayed for quite a few months, so he had to learn a lot of new languages. The countries included Spain, Sweden, Poland and probably a lot more. Ben won over 20 medals, lots of Silver and one very special Gold medal. You would probably like to know how I know all these things about him. We know this because we had a chance to interview him throughout the day. It was an amazing experience. A chance of a life time!

Yr 7 and Yr 10 Netball v Sherburn

A worthwhile trip across to Sherburn High School was rewarded with some fabulous goals from Yr 7 Izabela Klien and Yr10 Chloe Johnson during yesterday's fixture. Both girls were supported by great movement and consistent ball skills from the rest of the teams.

Yr 7's pulled off an early lead of 3-0 enabling the girls to move positions more frequently with Elizabeth playing a superb anchor of Centre for the first time. Meanwhile Alison Hinsley made interception after interception, sending the ball back down to the attacking force of Abi Sharp. Final score, an impressive 8-0.

Yr 10's battled hard to stay neck and neck for 18 minutes with 2-2, 4-4 and 6-6 score lines. Sadly the Sherburn team pulled away in the dying minutes for a final score of 8-6. There was a great performance by new comer to the team, Piper Hall. Together with Olivia Barker, they gave Sherburn shooters a great deal of work to do to gain possession of the ball within the circle. It was wonderful to see the game played at such a high standard, with Mrs Hunt able to grade the girls for their GCSE practical work.
