Rome

Year 11 members of the Genesis Group had a memorable and moving pilgrimage to Rome recently, with a spellbinding visit to the Vatican and a very close up glimpse of his Holiness, the Pope.
Students were also able to visit a wealth of sites in ancient Rome and some of the most beautiful churches in the city. The pilgrimage was a reward trip for those Year 11 students who contributed throughout the year to the Genesis Group.
Judging from some of the photos it will certainly be an experience that none of them will ever forget!

Speed Dating

Speed Dating with Industry

As part of students' careers education, employers and businesses from a wide variety of professions came into school to talk to Year 9 to give them a taste of life, post 16/18.
Pupils were given the opportunity to interview businesses to help them make informed decisions about suitable career paths and choices. Fourteen companies came into school from banks, a construction company, energy providers, animal welfare, Selby Council, emergency response representatives, as well as a health and fitness entrepreneur.
Students were enthused by the event and were enlightened. Both the NYBEP and all of the guests said behaviour was perfect.

Physics Olympics

Four G&T pupils from Year 8 took part in the Physics Olympics at St. Peter's School, York. They competed against 35 other schools in six events designed to test their scientific ability. The team were a credit to the school and came 4th in one of the events and a respectable 15th place overall.

Stock Exchange

The London Stock Exchange visits Holy Family!

Year 10 students have had a taste of the perilous world of stocks and shares as part of their PSHCEe curriculum. Students battled against each other to make 'big money' by making wise investments in various companies. This event had all the ingredients of a real life stock market: a trading pit, news updates, FTSE index and lots of money!
Students did very well and, thankfully, no one went bankrupt! The winning team made £500,000.
NYPEP and Burnholme College, York (who were the event organisers) praised our students for their outstanding behaviour and incredible work ethic. Mrs Wadsworth, Head of PSHCEe, is thinking of asking the winning team for some investment advice.
