Holy Family Houses
The Holy Family School recognises the need to reward their pupils for good work, a high level of effort or general positive behaviour towards staff, other pupils or the general school life and atmosphere. For Lower School, year’s 7, 8 and 9 we have a House Point System. On admission each student is allocated to a ‘House’. Here we have four houses:
Where did we get our house names from?
Hinsley
Named after Cardinal Hinsley, who was born in Carlton. Arthur Hinsley (1865–1943) was an English prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He served as Archbishop of Westminster from 1935 until his death, and was elevated to the cardinalate in 1937.
Newman
Last year because of the extra intake of students it was decided to create another house and Newman was chosen. This is named after Cardinal Newman, he was beatified by Pope Benedict on his visit to England last year.
Howard & Beaumont
Howard & Beaumont are named after the families from the Duke of Norfolk who own Carlton Towers that is situated in the village of Carlton.
Each student is encouraged to gain House Points for their respective houses, they achieve this by: good work, behaviour, helping other students and teachers. At the end of each half term the points are collected, collated entered onto a spread sheet which is then placed on a notice board so that the students can see how they are doing. When a student achieves either 40, 80, 100 and over 150 house points they are presented in assembly with either a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum Certificate.
Last school year, 2009/2010 it was decided to reward the top 15 students from each year with a trip to Xscape. This consisted of a morning’s bowling, followed by lunch in the bowling alley, then to the cinema to watch a film, some went to see Shrek III and others chose to see Eclipse.
