Genesis Group
The Genesis Group primarily consists of a number of Year 11 students who work together to promote and share Christian values within the school community, within the local community and within our wider global community also.
The group was first established at Cardinal Langley RC High School in Middleton and has since been developed in four other schools. The group is formed with Gospel values very much at its core; its aim is to make these values real and self-evident within the context of our school.
Our first school group, formed in 2011, was a major success and has had a huge impact on many aspects of school life. Since then, the group has continued to grow, with new members forming the Year 10 branch, dedicated to working for the SVP charity.
Within our own school we work to promote and enrich prayer life, assisting with and leading assemblies, collective worship and form time reflections. Similarly, great work has been done on important issues, including lots of opportunities created in the recent National Anti-Bullying week.
The Genesis Group also works hard to fundraise for many charities and raise awareness of the plight of others. Our focus charity, Cafod enables the group to see closely the need for sustainable support for LEDC countries and the problems emerging as a result of climate change and global warming, whilst playing an active part in the fight for justice and mercy.
At a local level the group visits and works with primary students, helps to prepare Family Masses in our parishes. The group regularly visits the elderly and infirm in the hope of spreading a little cheer and good will.
Pilgrimages are also a key part of our group’s activities, with an early visit to Walsingham at the beginning of the year, followed by a cumulative visit to Rome after the exams in Year 11.
