Curriculum

Academic success is important to us and our achievements at both key stages reflect the hard work of staff and students. GCSE results are very good. In 2010 over 70% of our students gained 5 or more GCSEs. We are particularly proud of the fact that the percentage of students achieving 5 top GCSEs including English and Mathematics was 55%. This is much higher than the national average and shows our commitment to academic excellence.

We offer a broad and balanced curriculum. At Key Stage 4, Mathematics, English, Science, Religious Education, Design Technology and either French or German, PE and PHSCE are core subjects, studied by all students. Options at Key Stage 4 include History, Geography, Music, Art, Physical Education, ICT, Drama, Media and working in collaboration with local schools and colleges we have increased the number of vocational courses available for students. This year they include Hair and Beauty, Construction, Engineering, Childcare, Health and Social Care, Motor Vehicle Maintenance. We also offer young apprenticeship courses to some students who benefit from a work based environment. Student levels of satisfaction and our record of examination successes indicate that the curriculum offered meets the needs of students.
