Press Release – GCSE Results 2010 Holy Family School Carlton
We are delighted with the GCSE results which are the best that the school has ever achieved.
Many subjects at Holy Family have A* to C rates of over 90%. However the governments preferred measure in the league tables, and a rigorous measure of overall performance of the school is the percentage of students gaining 5+ A* to C including English and Maths. Holy Family excels in this area and achieved 55% using this measure. This is an outstanding result putting the school in the top quartile of schools nationally. In the media, the debate continues to be around GCSE’s that are “easier” to pass. The curriculum at Holy Family does cater for all abilities, but has a core foundation of the more academic subjects. With this range of subjects, the school has still been able to produce excellent results with the students gaining qualifications that will be useful to them at college or in their further employment. The school predicts the “value added score” to be particularly high this year because of the progress the students have made from their individual starting points.
Mr Pritchard said “These are outstanding results. We had some very good results last year and felt it would be hard to beat that performance. However these results are the reward for the hard work of the staff and students. We could not have asked for more to round off an excellent year. We have set the highest of standards which we will aim to replicate in all areas of the school.”
“When the results come into school we often single out the top achievers for special praise. Like all schools we have high attaining students with all A* and A grades. However this year we have so many students who have made outstanding progress from their individual starting point, we want to congratulate them all!”
