Press Release – GCSE Results 2009 Holy Family School Carlton
We are delighted with the GCSE results which are the best that the school has ever achieved.
Once again we have over 99% pass rate, and with a figure of 70%, we increased the number of students gaining 5+ A* to C grades. The governments preferred measure in the league tables is the percentage of students gaining 5+ A* to C including English and Maths. Holy Family excels in this area and achieved 54% using this measure. This is an outstanding result putting the school in the top quartile of schools nationally. In the media, a lot of debate this year is around GCSE’s that are “easier” to pass. The curriculum at Holy Family does cater for all abilities, but has a core foundation of the more academic subjects. With this range of subjects, the school has still been able to produce excellent results with the students gaining qualifications that will be useful to them at college or in their further employment.
Mr Pritchard said “These are outstanding results. We achieved an excellent OfSTED report this year, and these results are the reward for the hard work of the staff and students. At the end of my first year as Headteacher at Holy Family, I could not have asked for more to round off an excellent year. We have set the highest of standards which we will aim to replicate in all areas of the school.”
This years high attaining students include Thomas Hoggarth and Rachel Hutchinson who achieved 17 A* and A grades between them.
